Adnan Januzaj signs five-year Manchester United contract

Manchester United midfielder Adnan Januzaj has signed a new five-year contract at Old Trafford.

The 18-year-old was due to be out of contract next summer, but, following his match-winning double against Sunderland, the Red Devils have moved swiftly to secure his long-term future.

The Premier League champions, chastened by the departure of Paul Pogba, had ramped up their efforts to keep Januzaj at the club in recents weeks and have now rewarded him with a bumper new deal.

The Belgium-born teenager, who moved to United from Anderlecht in 2011, says he is delighted to have penned the new contract and is now keen to establish himself as a first-team regular.

"It’s a great thrill to be able to sign for Manchester United. Since arriving here I have always felt like this was the right club for me," Januzaj told the club's official website.

"This season has been great for me – going on the pre-season tour, making my debut in the Community Shield win at Wembley and then breaking into the team at Sunderland – it’s like a dream.

"I want to work hard now and establish myself as a Manchester United player."

United boss David Moyes is thrilled Januzaj has signed a new deal, ending the speculation surrounding the youngster's future, and reiterated his belief that Old Trafford is the perfect place to continue his development.

"I'm delighted that Adnan has committed his future to United," said the Scot. "He is an outstanding talent and has impressed me consistently since I came to United in July.

"His balance, poise and ability to beat players is truly exceptional for a boy of his age. It’s great that he recognises that this club, with its tradition for developing young players and giving them a chance on the biggest stage, is the best place for him to be."

Manchester United Striker Robin Van Persie Plays Down Injury Concerns

Striker ace insists he’s not broken his toe.
Manchester United striker Robin Van Persie has moved to allay fears over his fitness by insisting that he has not broken his toe, but will miss Holland’s World Cup qualifier against Hungary this weekend, the Daily Mail reports.
The Dutch goal machine was sent for a scan to check on a knock suffered during United’s 1-1 draw with Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League, and though he featured during the side’s victory over Sunderland last weekend he has emerged as a major doubt for Holland’s penultimate game this weekend despite training with the national team several times this week.
“I got an enormous stamp on my toe [against Shakhtar] and I really thought it had been broken, but luckily a scan showed it was not,’ Van Persie told a press conference.
“I played on Saturday [in the 2-1 win at Sunderland] but the injury has not got better.”
The 30-year-old could return to action next Tuesday in Istanbul against Turkey should he miss out against Hungary.
Luckily, Holland have already qualified for next summer’s tournament in Brazil, but Van Persie remains just two goals shy of equalling the Dutch national scoring record set by Patrick Kluivert at 40 goals.

Van Persie fit to face West Brom, says Moyes

Manchester United manager David Moyes says striker Robin van Persie has recovered from injury and is fit enough to face West Brom on Saturday.

The Netherlands international missed Sunday’s 4-1 Premier League defeat to Manchester City and the midweek win over Liverpool with a groin injury. However, the Scot has revealed Van Persie is fit again and could feature against Steve Clarke’s men at Old Trafford on Saturday.

"Robin will be back, involved somewhere. He trained today and is fit. But we'll have to see exactly where he is," he told reporters.

"Tom [Cleverley] has done a bit of training today. He rocked his knee in training and hopefully he won't be too far away."

Moyes admitted that he still had much to learn as United boss but once again took time to praise his players for bouncing back from Sunday's thrashing at the hands of their neighbours.

"I have been learning every week since the day I walked in. I don't think that's going to change for a long time," he added.

"We made seven or eight changes. We made sure everybody at Manchester United was able to show what they can do.

"The players showed they were hurt. We'll try to give the fans something to shout about again tomorrow."

United face a West Brom side that were knocked out of the Capital One Cup by Arsenal in midweek but Moyes is still expecting a tough test and is looking forward to meeting up with former Everton striker Victor Anichebe.

"Steve Clarke has done a great job. West Brom is a stable football club that has continued to progress," he said.

"I'm pleased he [Anichebe] got a good move. I hope he does well - but not against us."
